Babu the Computer Cat

"The dim, but warm glow of the computer monitor filled the room of his hideout lair. Watching the words and images appear on the screen, Babu focused on their meaning, studying the circumstances of his next mission. This one would be a dangerous one, he thought. The dossier was littered with possible encounters with dogs and rats. Basement Cat must be behind this, Babu thought. There were just too many unsavory aspects on this case for him not to be involved in some way. More words appeared. Babu's jaw dropped open in disbelief. No, he thought. Realization washed over him as if he had just been plunged into the dreaded bathtub. This couldn't be. This mission included perhaps the biggest danger of all. The upper Masters in the C.I.A. wanted him--no, required him to...On this perilous mission, Babu would be forced to...to take Clara along..."

Babu the Hunter Cat

I am a shadow. I am a ghost. I am that stirring chilly gust that brushes past you in the still air. I am that odd sense that you are not alone. I am that which you do not see until it is too late.
I am hidden. I am silent. I am secret.
I stalk. I hunt.
I crouch.
I wait...

I POUNCE!!!!

Babu the Facepaw Cat

Babu: Have you gotten a visual on our target yet, Clara?

Clara: Uhhh. No? Am I supposed to be looking for something?'

Babu: (stunned silence)...

Clara the Distracted Cat

'Clara! Clllllarrrrraaaa!' Babu hissed at his sidekick, screaming at her to get back into position. She had been distracted again, claiming again to have seen a red dot darting threateningly around her. She always got so frantic and worked up by it. In the meantime, she was comprising their stakeout. 'There is no dot, Clara,' Babu harshly whispered through his bared teeth. 'Now, get back behind the curtain. Our target will approach any minute now.' Babu breathed in deeply as Clara took once last pan of the area, searching, he was sure, for her mysterious dot, and then retreated back behind the safety of the curtain. Clara was going to get him scratched or clawed or bit at some point, Babu thought. He just knew it..."

Babu the Traveling Cat

"Babu tucked himself away into the rolling luggage, settling himself as comfortably as he could amongst the shirts and pants that cushioned his body. Traveling in this way made him feel like a stowaway, but Babu's job as a spy for the C.I.A. (Cat Intelligence Agency) often sent him to far off places. This time it was Boston. Babu thought about the budget cuts that forced him to hide inside the luggage rather than flying in true comfort inside his Carrier, but the C.I.A. was hurting in this economy and his job still needed to be done. There were, of course, much worse places to be than inside of a cloth-filled carry-on. 'For the good of the Cat,' Babu thought to himself as the last zippers were closed up..."

Babu the Sleepy Cat

"A very, very worn out Babu collapsed upon the chair letting his head fall back against the blue, scratchy cushion. He had just completed an eighteen hour stalking session and he was more than ready to sleep the next eighteen. Maybe he'd even go for the rare complete-day sleep. He was certainly tired enough for that. Babu thought about taking a few moments to find a better position; perhaps he'd find the bed underneath the coffee table and curl up there, or maybe he'd climb up onto the blue armchair and tuck himself into the groove at the top. As his leaded eyes drooped closed, he decided that maybe lying on his back on this blue, scratchy chair would be the most comfortable place after all..."

Babu the Sensei Cat

"'Ok, you have to lift your paws to swipe. Lift your left paw and take a swipe at me.' Babu sighed. Training of the new kid was going horribly as it seemed Clara could not tell her left from her right paw, her front from back. 'Again, try it again...'

Clara looked at her left paw and then her right and back to her left again. A glimmer of understanding crossed her eyes and with a hesitant shutter she lifted her left paw and made a motion to swipe; it was slow, but the form was correct. 'Finally! Now was that so hard?' Babu asked encouragingly. Unfortunately, he knew the answer. This was going to be a long night..."

Babu the Filing Cat

"It's got to be in here, Babu thought, searching the files in the drawer. He was missing an extremely important document. How would he be able to hunt properly without his license? He didn't smell it in here, but he was sure this is where he'd last smelled it. Was the furniture rearranged during his last vacation at the kennel? He'd ask Clara, but could barely understand her and it was likely she'd have no idea anyway. He would keep looking. Maybe it was in the bottom drawer..."

Clara the Sidekick Cat

"A sidekick. Seriously? Babu had always considered himself a solitary hunter, a lone tiger if you will, but for some reason his Master had saddled him with a hunting neophyte as a partner. She was nice enough, but weird, meowing constantly at who knows what. She didn't know when she should be quiet, that a hunter should be silent--silent meant, deadly and effective. He would show her the ropes, train her to the best of his abilities in claw combat and prey stalking, but he knew he could only go so far. This Clara was going to be trouble..."

Babu the Sick Cat

"Ack...poison, Babu thought, tasting the bitterness slide from his mouth and down his throat. He had been tricked again by his Master, thinking he was to receive a treat, a reward for his successful hunting of the prey, but instead was given a revitalization pill. It was meant to heal, he knew, but disgustingly nonetheless. Every day it had been, a daily pill, for the last three weeks, but hopefully the regimen would be over soon. He would be strengthened for further hunts, and the bitter tastes would seep into foggy memory..."

Babu the Drunk Cat

"Never again. Never, ever again. The day that he would take another sip of catnip ale was the day he named a dog a friend..."

Babu the House Cat

"Having a hideout pleased Babu, a base of operations for his covert work. However, he wished he had spent a little more time studying the details of his purchase rather than being blinded by the location, its view of the area second to none. The style was just as he liked, the shape and construction exquisite. Even the carpeting was exactly what he would have wanted, tough and durable, yet would scrap off satisfyingly with every swipe of his claws. The major issue, he thought, was evident the moment he was forced to use his lithe, flexible cat body to squeeze through the tiny house opening: the color was all wrong! Red, the listing said, red! This was maroon and that was a travesty..."

Babu the Clean Cat

"Caught in here again, Babu thought ruefully, contemplating his way out of the white room this time. Its plain slick walls were awfully inviting but as usual, once inside there was the realization that the only thing could happen was an unpleasant soaking. He'd lived through that before, his fur soaked to the bone, his teeth chattering with cold. He never wanted a bath again. He would claw and scratch his way out of one with all his might. Fortunately, no water ran now, and he would be able to escape dry. He needed to act fast before he was caught. But how, he thought..."

Babu the Quick Cat

"The teasing bird finally flew low enough to be within reach and so Babu sprang, releasing his coiled muscles and tendons into violent action, claws swiping at the feathered foe, teeth bared and hissing. Babu struck, but futilely, his sharpened nails passing harmlessly through the feather strands. A miss, this time, but the battle was not over..."

Babu the Patient Cat

Babu has a tendency to climb into places and hide, especially where he's not necessarily allowed to be. That rarely stops him though. Perhaps he has his reasons...

"Babu settled into the drawers, his face pressed down into the socks and underwear that filled it almost spilling over. He settled and waited, and would wait as long as it would take. His prey had not arrived yet, but Babu the predator was patient..."

About Babu the Cat

Babu is a cat. For some unknown reason, it has become apparent that Babu is a very photogenic cat and given his propensity for being photographed, a blog has been established to demonstrate this very fact.
